Dr Shuli Futeran

Dr Shuli Futeran was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and completed her Medical training in 1994 at Stellenbosch University. 

After completing her internship at Tygerberg Hospital, she worked in the UK, where she had her first real introduction to Psychiatry.

She then worked in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for three years before pursuing her real passion in Psychiatry in 2001.

Dr Futeran was awarded a Master of Psychiatry in 2009 and became a member of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in 2010. Most of this training was part time so that she could combine working with motherhood .

As well as working as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Prince of Wales Hospital since 2010 with a special interest in Community Psychiatry, Dr Futeran has worked at The Black Dog Institute, spent 8 years in private practice and continues to do some FIFO to Wagga Wagga and Tamworth Hospitals.  Dr Futeran’s  experiences in the different areas of private and public psychiatry, as well as her earlier career in Obsterics and Gynaecology, give her an in-depth knowledge of the complex issues surrounding fertility,  as well the challenges involved in accessing care in rural areas.
