Whilst our services are primarily focused on assisting women with the psychiatric challenges of becoming pregnant, we also provide one-off opinions for women managing the unique challenges of menopause. Points to note if you are at this phase in your life include:
- There is an increased risk of mental health issues during the menopause transition. These often appear as affective and anxiety orders.
- There are nuances in the presentation of mood disturbance in the menopause transition. These include less sadness but a possible increase in anger, irritability and fluctuation in the severity of symptoms.
- There isn’t a standard treatment plan for menopause symptoms, however, we always recommend that you discuss our report with your GP who is in the best position to provide ongoing care.
On a positive note, we observe that most women will benefit from education about the menopause transition and will likely respond to treatment if needed.
